How the day flows
Who signs the marriage license as witnesses if it's just the two of us?
Elopements Inc. provides witnesses at no extra cost in states that require them (Arizona, South Carolina, and most other states). Tennessee and Georgia no longer require witnesses, so the officiant and the couple sign alone. Important: the marriage license itself must be applied for in person by both partners at the county clerk's office. Elopements Inc. cannot obtain the license on your behalf, and the license fee is paid directly to the county — not to us.
How long does a just-the-two-of-us ceremony take?
The ceremony itself runs 10-15 minutes — exchange of vows, ring exchange, pronouncement, license signing. Photography is built around the venue and runs another 30-90 minutes depending on the package. Total time at the venue: typically 60-90 minutes from arrival to departure.
Can we still write personal vows?
Yes — and most couples do. Without an audience, personal vows often run longer and feel less performative. The officiant works with you in advance to decide on the program, whether you want a brief religious element, traditional readings, or just exchanged vows and rings.
